9 Things You Need to Know about Sitelink Extensions in AdWords
- The Sitelinks ad extension shows links to specific pages on your website beneath the text of your ads. This helps customers get to what they’re looking for on your site with just one click.
- Sitelinks are limited to 25 character spaces
- After enabling Sitelinks and getting some traffic, reporting data can tell you if they are improving your click through rates and conversion rates.
- You can create mobile optimized Sitelinks to show on mobile devices, or you can disable specific Sitelinks on the devices you choose
- You can schedule the dates, days of the week, or times of the day that you want your Sitelinks to appear.
- Besides showing live links to pages on your website, Sitelinks can also sometimes show with a description under each link. When creating a new Sitelink, be sure to fill out both lines of the description field to make it eligible to appear
- There is no extra cost to enable Sitelinks for your ads. If someone clicks anywhere in your ad, including on a Sitelink, the click cost will be the same.
- As with all ad extensions, you cannot be in control over when they will appear. Aside from enabling them, and possibly scheduling them, there isn’t a lot more you can do. It is always at Google’s discretion when where and how to display your ad extensions.
- Sitelink extensions have been around for a while as an extension that can be set up and enabled by the advertiser. However, Google recently created an automated feature called “Dynamic Sitelinks.” This is not something you can set up and control yourself. At its discretion, Google can add Dynamic Sitelinks below your ad based on different pages of your website.
